Southampton 0-9 LCFC - the biggest ever away victory in the 131-year history of the Football League :lcfc:

The following article concerning David appeared in today's issue of Private Eye.
I love David's comment in the last sentence - "I preferred walking" :)

"The sudden death of music journalist David Cavanagh over the Christmas holiday
prompted an outpouring of tributes from fellow hacks and music-press readers. It also
prompted a strange obituary by the Guardian's John Harris which was so bereft of
biographical fact (Harris admitted he couldn't even provide 54-year-old Cavanagh's age) that
it appeared as an online opinion piece instead.

Harris described his former colleague on the '90's Britpop magazine Select as "the best
music writer of his times". But it is unlikely the compliment would have been returned;
those with long memories recall Cavanagh's derision when the rise of Oasis prompted
Harris to adopt an ultra-working class Manc persona, swaggering around the Emap offices
in voluminous shirts with a grown-out mop-top in the style of the Gallagher brothers.

As Cavanagh related in Paul Gorman's music press history In Their Own Write: "People
like John Harris - who's from a very middle class home in Cheshire - were suddenly talking
like Terry Christian. A lot of people saw the bus leaving and wanted to get on it. I preferred walking"

Then again that doesn't really make sense. Unless routemaster was driving the bus...

It's like Nigel Kennedy: if you hear an interview with him in his teens he's got a very middle class accent like what I have, then when he became successful he went all mockney. :wtf:

Strange how a giant of international football had such little ambition at club level. :wtf:

I actually met his wife a few times through a previous employment, she used to tell me how "he wouldn't play for those Villa cunts if they were the last team on earth". :)

I remember seeing his protégé Peter Shilton play at Villa shortly after he'd been caught shagging someone else's wife and singing, "Does your missus know you're here?" Happy days. :)

Some old geezer called Karl Lagerlout keeled over today.
Don't know exactly what his claim to fame was, but tv is going on about it.
